San Diego Community Power (SDCP), the not-for-profit community choice energy program, on April 20 announced the San Diego Padres’ decision to opt up to SDCP’s Power100 service tier. SDCP will now be providing Petco Park and its affiliated facilities with 100 percent renewable and carbon-free energy.

“The Padres are proud to be a leader in environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in professional sports,” said Erik Greupner, Padres chief executive officer. “We are excited to further elevate Petco Park’s standing as one of the greenest ballparks in America by becoming a Power100 Champion and utilizing clean, renewable energy through our partnership with San Diego Community Power.”

Petco Park will now become the first National League stadium to be powered by 100 percent renewable and carbon-free energy. Petco Park, which continually ranks as one of the top ballparks in the MLB, had the third-highest attendance across all stadiums during the 2021 Padres season.
