Pioneer Community Energy Announces New 100% Renewable Energy Option
(ROCKLIN, CA) — Monday, June 07, 2021 – Today, Pioneer Community Energy (Pioneer), the publicly owned, joint powers authority that provides electricity for residents and businesses currently in Placer County and in El Dorado County starting 2022, announced the rollout of Green100, a new 100% renewable energy option.
“When members of our communities began asking Pioneer for electricity produced from 100% renewable sources, we brought them Green100,” said Jim Holmes, member of the Placer County Board of Supervisors and chair of the Pioneer Governing Board. “We launched Pioneer to give our communities a choice in electricity providers, and now we can give them a choice in electricity products.”
The new Green100 rate demonstrates Pioneer’s commitment to local control and responsiveness to ratepayer requests. Green100 renewable resources may include geothermal, wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass. Residents and businesses interested in reducing their carbon footprint can sign up for Pioneer’s Green100 program starting today.
Pioneer always supports your right to choose. Enrolling in Green100 is completely voluntary and may also help building owners seeking LEED certification.
“The Green100 rate gives businesses and municipalities another tool to use to meet state carbon reduction requirements,” said John Hidahl, member of the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and the Pioneer Governing Board. “With this new option, Pioneer Community Energy becomes the only source for ratepayers looking for electricity produced from 100% renewable resources.”
Pioneer’s founding principles include spearheading solutions that benefit customers, the economy and the environment by building local energy resiliency and creating renewable energy jobs. To that end, Pioneer strives to purchase renewable electricity from local resources in Placer and El Dorado counties and from within California whenever possible.
