Monterey Bay Community Power set to add residential service
Poised to complete a years-long effort to take over regional power acquisition and focus on renewable energy, Monterey Bay Community Power is set to start residential power service to about 235,000 customers in the tri-county area on July 1, four months after starting non-residential service to about 37,500 customers.
MBCP Chief Executive Officer Tom Habashi said this marks “an important time” for the new agency and for the tri-county community, noting that on July 1 hundreds of thousands of residential customers “will begin receiving electricity sourced from carbon-free supplies and our region will take a big step forward in reducing emissions and building funds to support local renewable energy projects.” At the same time, Habashi noted the agency is set to launch a new 100 percent eligible renewable energy service dubbed MBprime on July 1 in partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
