Lancaster Energy Celebrates 10 Years of Powering a Cleaner Future

California Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice) Associate Member Lancaster Energy (LE), the City of Lancaster’s locally managed energy provider, celebrated its 10-year anniversary on May 1, 2025. As one of the first community choice aggregation (CCA) programs in the state, LE has spent the last decade leading the way in local energy innovation, now serving more than 60,000 residential and commercial customer accounts.

“Lancaster Energy has been at the forefront of California’s community choice movement since its founding, setting an example of excellence for agencies across the state,” said CalChoice Executive Director Jason Caudle. “After ten successful years of operation, we’re proud of our continued partnership and CalChoice is excited to support LE’s innovative vision for the future of renewable energy.”

Since its founding in 2015, LE has generated cumulative customer savings of $1.9 million. As one of eight CCAs in the CalChoice family, LE contributes to a collective impact that now reaches over 750,000 customers.

But LE’s impact goes far beyond savings. The agency has developed a comprehensive portfolio of energy programs benefiting both customers and the environment, including:

  • AEC Grant Program: Deploys solar, energy storage and distributed energy resources as part of a citywide Virtual Power Plant network
  • Power Choice Residential: Offers tailored solar and battery storage solutions for residential customers
  • Power Choice Plus: Provides solar and battery storage packages designed specifically for commercial customers
  • Power Choice CARE: Expands access to solar and battery storage for income-qualified customers, offering a 50% rate reduction

Lancaster Energy is also charting new territory with the creation of the First Public Hydrogen Authority, a Joint Powers Authority that positions the City of Lancaster as a key leader in the emerging hydrogen economy.

“LE’s first decade proves what is possible when a community takes charge of its energy future,” added Jason. “This anniversary isn’t just about looking back, it’s about building momentum.”

Looking ahead, Lancaster Energy plans to launch new initiatives that further enhance customer benefits, including expanding its virtual power plant capabilities, building out electric vehicle infrastructure and exploring creative financing tools for clean energy technologies.
