CalCCA Celebrates a Decade of Community Choice Advocacy, Bold Leadership on Behalf of California Communities

Sacramento, Calif. — The California Community Choice Association (CalCCA) is proudly marking its ten-year anniversary in 2026, celebrating a decade of advocacy and leadership that has helped shape California’s energy landscape and elevate the collective voice of Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs) statewide.

Since its founding in 2016 by six pioneering CCAs—CleanPowerSF, Lancaster Energy, MCE, Peninsula Clean Energy, Silicon Valley Clean Energy, and Sonoma Clean Power—CalCCA has championed the interests of community choice energy providers in Sacramento and before state regulators, working to ensure locally governed CCAs and their customers are treated fairly in energy policy decisions. Today, the association represents 24 CCAs serving more than 15 million Californians across 200+ cities and counties, delivering community-focused energy solutions across the state.

“Ten years ago, a small group of community choice leaders joined forces and established CalCCA to protect the right of California communities to shape their energy futures,” said CalCCA CEO Beth Vaughan. “Through bold leadership and informed advocacy, the association has become the unified and respected voice of CCAs in California, one that is looked to as a thought leader in the state’s most critical energy policy discussions.”

Over the last decade, CalCCA has served members through coordinated, data-driven regulatory and legislative advocacy and by ensuring they have the resources and expertise to navigate complex policy landscapes. The association is currently active in over 60 proceedings at the California Public Utilities Commission, California Energy Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and California Independent System Operator, among others. Through this work, CalCCA supports the growth and success of CCAs across California, helping communities take greater control over their energy choices while advancing the state’s clean energy and climate goals.

As CalCCA’s membership has grown, so has the organization—from its first hire, Beth Vaughan as executive director in 2017, to a team of 20 full-time staff today. This team is the backbone of the association, leading key initiatives, providing strategic support, organizing myriad gatherings and events, and facilitating a platform for members to collaborate, learn from one another, and thrive.

The CalCCA 10-Year Anniversary Logo.

To commemorate its 10-year milestone, CalCCA has unveiled a new 10-year anniversary logo that will be featured throughout 2026 as part of a yearlong recognition of the association’s history, impact, and future vision.

CalCCA will also host a special 10-year anniversary celebration at its upcoming 2026 Annual Conference, bringing together members, partners, and policymakers to reflect on a decade of progress and partnership in advancing community choice energy programs in California. Additional details surrounding anniversary-related programming and initiatives will be announced in the coming months.

As CalCCA enters its second decade, the association’s focus remains steadfast on collaboration, collective action, and meaningful impact. The 2026 Annual Conference, themed “Powering Our Legacy,” will take place in Sacramento from May 12–14, 2026. Registration opens to the public on February 27.
